Dear Mama: On Your Birthday

Dear Mama,

You're always losing stuff.

And you can't just have a normal conversation with anyone.
It's like every person you see you need to know their hearts and you listen too well so they just tell you everything.

And before we know it, you're puttin' all your stuff down on Target display racks and praying for this random woman you just met whose dog recently died.

And I can't stand the sound of microwaves beeping because you're always leavin' stuff in there.

You make a huge pot of coffee every morning and then you're warming it up again and again in the microwave all day long but you forget you put it in there.

Mom thinks *I'll have some coffee at 3:00 p.m.*, *puts coffee in microwave*, *gets distracted by geraniums outside* *walks outside and starts talking to plants like they're her actual children* *forgets coffee is in microwave* *microwave beeps until I open and shut it*

You're late to more appointments than you are on time.

And you get so frustrated at yourself because the concept of time just doesn't hold enough weight for you to be on time.

And you're always just giving money away.

*Kid comes to the door selling coupon booklet to raise money for football team* *Mom buys booklet* *Different kid comes to the door selling the same booklet for the same team and Mom buys that one too*

This pattern herein continues until football season is over.

You're always trying to make everyone else happy and you'll do anything to assist in that process.

And all these things are what make you YOU and we love you exactly as you are.

As time rolls on, I am realizing my own destiny. And it's a lot like all of my descriptions of you and I am proud of the woman you've made me to be.

Imperfect and hopelessly committed to the hearts and lives of others.

Thank you, Mama.

WE LOVE YOU!

When Mama came to visit me in South Africa.

Probably thinking about what it would be like to hold a baby right now

Pure Jesus Joy.
