Maple House

The ground beneath your feet is mossy and lush with layers of moisture. Your feet sink into the layers of tangled moss so much that your unsure of your footing.

Something pulls you, like an inward peace, towards the tall, thin trees ahead. You keep walking. Your feet sink in only to be sucked back out.

The Eastern sun rises behind you and sheds streaks of light before you. Soon you are surrounded by giant trees. The trees tell stories of ancient days and reach towards the sky like they are trying to tell the stories to heavenly angels.

You smell a sweet syrupy scent that leads you searching for its source. The trees have funnels attached to their bases with maple syrup flowing into mason jars. You place a finger under the flow and taste savory maple syrup. Full bodied and robust.

The flow of maple syrup is strong and consistent but the mason jar has only a thin layer of it. You watch it fill for a moment and understand that someone must have recently swapped a full jar for this new empty one.

You keep walking and find a sturdy ladder at the base of a tree. Of course you climb the ladder. It leads to a large tree house that expands across the tops of seven trees. Freshly brewed coffee dances with notes of caramel and oakwood inside the tree house.

You see two coffee cups sitting on a small breakfast table with two stumps for chairs. One of the cups has a saying that reads "today is a good day". You pick up that coffee cup and pour some coffee. You notice wide open French doors with cotton curtains flowing on either side of the opening.

Standing outside, you feel the sun warm your face and neck. Wind moves the tiny curls around your face. Barefooted, you walk the wraparound deck. Looking over the edge of the deck makes your stomach jump.

You are up very high.

In the distance you see rolling hills that eventually give way to large snow covered mountains. Following the curved wooden panels of the deck, you see another completely new landscape on the opposite side. Granite canyons cut out of the ground like they used to be one massive block that has been chiseled by time.

You take a deep breath and feel the ache in your healing ribs. Once broken, now healing much stronger than before. You smile and take a sip of your coffee.

Today is a good day.
