Lettuce Heads and Minion Easter Eggs

Today, the kids came home at noon. The teachers had a workshop, so they just sent the kids home. I helped make them lunch and then worked with Bonga on math. I wasn’t sure how his math skills leveled, but secretly, I was hoping they weren’t that great… cause then I might actually be able to help. He hasn’t learned division yet, so we were alright. Math is interesting for about the first two problems, and then it gets super boring. (To me anyways) So, to keep both myself and Bonga interested, I taught the math lesson using colorful balls of clay. If I have six balls of clay, and I take away four, how many are left? His eyes scanned from my hand to the table with one purple and one red ball of clay. One...two… two! And then I would applause and congratulate him after each correct answer.

Today is boys club where they played pick-up sticks and learned about children’s rights. I think the last time I played pick-up sticks, I also believed that the Easter Bunny, Santa Clause and all the little Leprechauns lived in my hometown. Oh, and my sister was a Disney Princess for sure. I discovered each of those weren’t true, except that last one. She is still a princess in my mind. I enjoyed watching the boy’s steady stances and stares as they attempted to move a single stick without moving the others.

CATCH received a massive donation of lettuce today. Piles and piles of lettuce. You see, this is an issue because kids don’t exactly scramble to get their hands on lettuce leaves. They would probably much rather use the heads of lettuce as mock soccer balls. We sprinkled them with sugar! I’m sure you can guess how this went. They sucked all the sugar off and then disposed of the lettuce leaves. Fail. Don’t worry, Linda, the cook, had a warm meal of rice and chicken waiting for them in the kitchen like always.

Last week, the other American and myself put together an American meal for our South African friends, complete with American flag décor and all! We discovered that finding a purely “American” meal was quite difficult because we are a melting pot of many cultures. We planned like it was the Fourth of July and went the sloppy joe’s, tater tots, ramen noodle salad and snicker salad dessert route. Although, those American flags hanging over the kitchen table make me miss my father! Whom I am anxiously awaiting a reply from about potentially extending my flight. If my flight doesn’t get extended, I will be leaving the Country in eleven days. Say whaaaaaaa?

This weekend is Easter! We are making lots of plans, but ultimately it’s all about Him. The One who stepped down into darkness, and willingly took the blame for my sins and stood in the gap for God and man. The One who abolished the Law and instead gave us His own Holy Spirit to continue His work through faith to bear fruit on the earth. The One who put death in its own grave and continues to do miracles today. The One who heals, teaches, restores, leads, provides, encourages, and lavishes everlasting love upon all creation. I’ve never met another as beautiful as Him.

I'm not sure where Easter eggs fit into the glorious story of Easter, but they sure are fun to decorate! I spy with my little eye... a Minion!

Goodnight lovelies.

xoxo
